Night Care

If your loved one needs home help it may be the case that they could benefit from extended night care. Having a carer on hand throughout the night can provide them with the peace of mind to get a good night’s sleep or know that support is on hand if needed. It can also provide the necessary personal and specialist care they may need throughout the night.

At Fresh Tree Care Services , we advocate independence for all of our clients and encourage them to take care of themselves as much as possible. But we also understand that a good night’s sleep may be difficult to get for many reasons, including lack of mobility, anxieties over being left alone and conditions such as dementia. This in itself can make remaining independent more difficult, which is where night-time care can help.

How night-time care can help

Knowing that your loved one is safe and cared for during the night can provide much needed peace of mind, especially if you don’t live nearby. Night care can also provide necessary support with toileting, medication, and mobility assistance – useful if your loved one has a disability or suffers from dementia and is at risk of falling or injuring themselves during the night.

It is well known that quality of sleep can have a huge impact on overall health and wellbeing, and as such night care may be an essential part of a care plan.

Sleeping Night

During a sleeping night, your Carer will sleep in the home of you or your loved one to ensure safety and security and assistance if required. The carer will be expected to get a reasonable night’s sleep but is available to help if needed. This option is best for you if you don’t require regular support but feel uncomfortable when left alone throughout the night. Having a carer on hand can improve your quality of sleep by alleviating these anxieties and providing intermittent support.

Working Night

During a working night, your Carer will be on duty in the home of you or your loved one to provide any necessary support throughout the night. A night carer can help with toileting, personal care, and monitoring or whatever particular needs you may have. This may be the preferred option if you or a loved one wake several times a night needing support. Assistance may be needed as you wake up disorientated, or wake due to pain caused by a medical condition. You may also need support if you wake at regular intervals throughout the night to change position due to injury or to take medication.

Questions to ask

  • Do you worry that your loved one is unable to take medication or go to the bathroom during the night?
  • Is your loved one worried about their own safety during the night?
  • Do they need the peace of mind of knowing that they have help during the night?
  • Does your parent need additional support with medical and personal care throughout the night?
